Cycling

We both like cycling though we are not fanatical about it. Leece rides a Gary Fisher Tassajara. Mike's on either a Fisher Excaliber or a Specialized Hard Rock. We like to cycle on the county roads, which form an outstanding network of 'cycle trails' in the southeastern Colorado countryside. Rural county roads have little traffic, and farmers and ranchers tend to be far more friendly toward other users of the roads than most city dwellers.

Cycling toward Timpas bridge

Cycling north on County Road 23, Leece approaches the Timpas Creek Bridge. Timpas Creek flows through Otero County before emptying into the Arkansas River. Pike's Expedition camped near that confluence before moving on to the west and Pike's Peak.

Cliff swallows on Timpas bridge

Leece pauses on the Timpas Creek bridge to watch hundreds of cliff swallows stuff themselves with mosquitoes.

Toward the Arkansas River

Leece pedals along CO 266 toward the bridge over the Arkansas near Rocky Ford.
